Do I need to start on the lowest dose of Wegovy?

The dose you start on when you switch will depend on various clinical criteria, including your current dose of Mounjaro, and whether you are experiencing side effects. When you complete the switching consultation, we’ll recommend the dose that suits your personal medical history best.

How long is the washout period when switching to Wegovy?

If you are switching from Mounjaro to Wegovy, we recommend a “washout period” of 10 days to minimise any potential side effects that you experience on the new treatment.

What are the side effects of Wegovy?

Common side effects of Wegovy include nausea, headaches, stomach upsets (diarrhoea and vomiting) constipation, tiredness, acid reflux and indigestion symptoms, gallstones, dizziness, hair loss and reactions at injection site.

Uncommon and rare side effects include increased heart rate, increased gastric enzyme levels, pancreatitis, angioedema and anaphylactic reactions.

We expect some common side effects to subside within the first few weeks, however if you experience any of the rarer side effects, you should stop the injections immediately and seek medical help.

How do I store Wegovy?

Wegovy should be stored in a fridge (2°C to 8°C) before first use. Once you start using the pen, it can be stored at room temperature (8 to 30°C) for 6 weeks (42 days). Do not freeze.

What is the difference between Ozempic and Wegovy?

Both Ozempic and Wegovy contain the same active ingredient, Semaglutide. However, Ozempic is licensed for use in people with diabetes and Wegovy is licensed to be used as part of a weight management program.

Wegovy has a wider range of dosages available from 0.25mg up to 2.4mg.

How long is treatment?

We recommend that anyone starting on their weight loss journey with Wegovy, regards this as a longer-term treatment alongside healthy lifestyle choices and exercise. Wegovy can be prescribed for up to two years. How long you take Wegovy for will be dependent on your weight loss goals. It’s important to note that when you stop Wegovy, to maintain your weight you longer-term, you need to adopt lifestyle changes and regular exercise.

How do I get Wegovy supply?

After completing a successful consultation, your 4-week supply of Wegovy will be delivered via the Royal Mail Tracked 24 option. Your package will include:

• Your injections and necessary needles for administration, thoughtfully packed with insulation material (a wool-type material) and ice gel packs to ensure optimal temperature during transit.

• A sharps bin for the safe disposal of used needles.

How will you track my progress?

Because you’ll buy a 4-week supply at a time, we recommend you re-order as soon as you’ve taken your 3^rd dose in each cycle. During your re-order consultation, we’ll ask you to update us on your progress and how you’re getting on with Wegovy (including regular weight and side effect updates). Our in-house prescribing pharmacists will review your consultation to ensure you’re on-track and Wegovy is working for you.

Taking oral contraceptives?

For women using oral contraceptives – we recommend switching to a non-hormonal contraceptive or a barrier method of contraception for four weeks at the beginning of treatment, and four weeks after each dose adjustment.

How do I re-order my next dose?

Our clinical team will check in regularly with you via email to see how you are progressing with treatment. Towards the end of your first month, you will receive reminder emails with instructions on how to re-order your next dose. You will be directed to a shorter clinical consultation designed to assess how you are getting on with your treatment and whether or not you need a dosage adjustment. You can also log in to your Phlo Clinic account and re-order this way should you choose. For optimal results, we encourage patients to take a long term view of this treatment on a monthly basis until you reach your weight loss goal.

How do dispose of my sharps bin?

We advise patients to contact their local council as the first option option as they can usually arrange collection from your home address or provide guidance on local drop off points. Some pharmacies will also accept sharps bins for disposal but this will be at the discretion of the particular pharmacy.
